Guest Author at Pima Community College Writing Class

On September 19, 2023 I was invited to be a guest author by Dr. Carmen Salvo for her online English Composition for English Language Learners course (WRT101se CRN 13069/70). The topic of the discussion was "Developing your Stories: guidance from a renowned writer about identity." The class of 20 students were introduced to my book, Dichos de mi Padre/Sayings of my Father and my website. They were asked to share a dicho or words of wisdom from a member of their family and write a story about it.

I shared about my journey as a writer and how my identity plays a huge role in what I write about.  My stories provide readers with a Mexican American perspective on many topics. The students were diverse. Their backgrounds were Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican, and several were from various Latin cultures.  They were an inspiration. It was an honor to interact with them.

In Fall 2023 I plan to be a guest author in another writing class taught by Dr. Salvo.
